We have just spent the most wonderful weekend at The Old Mushroom Farm in Howick. Accomodation s fantastic. Breakfast and pizzas were delicious too. Thank you, what a wonderful place. We will be back!
It s my first time staying at The Old Mushroom Farm, after hearing about it from many folk. I had the most amazing stay and appreciate many things about this place. For one, as a solo traveller, they charge per person and not per "room"/ cottage. It helps so much when a person doesn't have to pay for an entire unit when they are only one person. Also, it's location is on a beautiful farm just off a road that is "central" to both Howick and it's surrounding attractions. The staff were kind, efficient and helpful. Highly recommended.
We stayed at The Old Mushroom Farm on the weekend of the Midmar 2026 and we didn’t have a good experience. Firstly I messaged the number which is provided on the fridge of the unit asking if it s possible to have another fan brought to the room as it s extremely hot which I never received a reply apart from a automated “we will get back to you as soon as we get back to our desk” I guess they still haven’t returned to the desk
Secondly when we opened up the tap to shower there s almost no ter coming out and the shower head s broken as well so we couldn’t even try to adjust the ter spray. I took a video and sent it to the same number which I then got a “Thanks for letting us know”
It would have been nice to have someone actually come and take a look and fix the shower or atleast communicate effectively. I would not recommend the Mushroom Farm to anyone
We loved this weekend get away.
The boutique apartment s neat, clean and quirky with a little bay window. Loved the little stores to browse in and the delicious breakfast (bed and breakfast option) and the pizza lunch. Definitely will be recommending to family and friends.
An absolute gem in the Karkloof! The setting is breathtaking and there’s so much to enjoy on-site. Home Slice serves incredible coffee and treats, and Bite Society does fantastic pizza and tapas. Plus, there are unbelievably beautiful lks just a short stroll away. A must-visit!
The mushroom farm provides a lovely overnight stay. We booked into the tunnel apartment and were seranaded by the show being staged in the theatre nearby. Breakfast s very tasty.
Very interesting, arty complex. We stayed in one of the funky boutique apartments and just loved its spacious layout and retro finishes. The wood fire is a fabulous treat. Breakfast, which is included, is excellent.
Wonderful place to stay over in Howick. I stayed in the loft… comfortable, very clean with stunning views. Beautiful lk in

BEWARE!! Please change your policy for dogs on leashes…
I am leaving this review today after a very scary incident at the Old Mushroom Farm.
I tried to to discuss with the owner but the landline doesn’t work.
We were about to leave after having a meal there. My husband went inside to pay and I lked just past our car towards a view point with our Miniature Schnauzer (on her lead) and my two boys (aged 5 and 7).
Suddenly two dogs darted towards us and went for our Schnauzer. My 5 year old son got caught in the middle of the scuffle and s unable to move away.
It is only by God’s grace that no-one s harmed.
The owner of the dogs dived on the floor to secure the one dog, whilst another gentleman secured the second dog and a third person lifted our dog above his head.
The owner of the dogs did apologise but when I expressed my concern for their dogs being off leads she proceeded to swear at us.
We headed to another establishment where I burst into tears at the thought of what could have happened.. three ladies came to speak with me and said that this establishment has a bad reputation for dogs being off leads and incidents like this occurring.
I sincerely request for the owner/s of the Old Mushroom Farm to review their policy in this regard.
We could have had a serious situation on our hands today or even a fatality.. I thank the Lord for His protection and hope to see this being seriously addressed for the safety of the public.
This place is so quiant and I really enjoyed my afternoon there. The book shop s definitely my favourite place. The food s good. There are two cafes to shoes from.
